2019 HIGH SCHOOL WATER POLO

Welcome to another year of high school water polo! Here are some simple steps to participate this season.

For 2019, all athletes and teams will need to register through Goal-line.

Athletes should register through the following Goal-line link: http://mwpa.goalline.ca/event-search.php?cat=234 .

It is important that athletes sign up with the correct membership type. All high school league athletes should choose the 2018-2019 Player registration form and complete the online application. All athletes should indicate that they are not a returning player so that all contact information can be collected. Athletes should choose the HSL membership option and indicate MWPA unattached as your respective Club. If athletes are already registered in the Goalline system with a MWPA Member Club you do not have to complete this task.

Coaches should register through the following Goal-line link: https://mwpa.goalline.ca/register.php?reg_form_id=26368 . There is not cost for volunteer coaches to sign up.

School Team Managers and Minor Officials should register through the following Goal-line link: https://mwpa.goalline.ca/register.php?reg_form_id=26368 . There is not cost to sign up.

MWPA encourages all School Team Managers and Minor Officials to sign up as volunteers. The process if very simple and more importantly – free. In completing this task, we have a better representation of individuals supporting water polo in Manitoba. You should choose the 2018-2019 Volunteer registration form as noted above.

School Teams - After all your team athletes have completed their individual registrations, your team manager should then enter the MWPA Goal-line system and complete the 2019 HSL Registration form. Here is the link: http://mwpa.goalline.ca/event-search.php?cat=343 .  The completion of this form is very straight forward if all your coaches and athletes have registered.

2019 FEES

Athlete registration fee: $30

2019 School team registration fee: $600

Athlete fees can be paid directly through the Goal-line system via PayPal.

School Team Registration fee: We have provided the schools with an invoice option for school team fees if they prefer not to use PayPal.

This session will also provide you with the opportunity to ask questions and share your passion and concerns not only for water polo in Manitoba but also at a National level.

Meet the Camp Coaches:

Justin Oliveira – Justin Oliveira is Water Polo Canada's High Performance Director. In 2010, he became a part time assistant coach at the National Training Centre, while head coaching the women's youth National Team. By the end of 2010, he quickly moved up the ranks becoming a full time assistant coach with the women's National Team. In 2015, he was named as the Lead Coach & Team Leader for the final year of the Olympic Quadrennial. He has participated as an assistant in 2 silver medal winning Pan Am Games teams, three World Aquatic Championships, along with numerous international competitions.

Robin Randall - Robin Randall has been around the men's national team program longer than anyone. He joined the youth national team in 1995 before advancing to the junior national team in 1997. He was part of the senior national team for the first time from 1999 to 2003 before leaving for two years to teach English in South Korea. While there, he went to see former teammates competing at the Universiade, reigniting his passion for the game. With a new head coach in place, he returned to the national team in 2005 and never looked back. He was a key figure in Canada qualifying for Beijing 2008, the first time the men's water polo team had officially qualified for the Olympic Games after being substitutes at the boycotted Los Angeles 1984 and being given host nation entry at Montreal 1976. Robin is also a three-time Pan American Games medallist from Rio 2007, Guadalajara 2011, and Toronto 2015. Robin is currently the Team Manager/Assistant Coach for the Senior Men's National Team.

Alain Delorme – Alain Delorme is currently the Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Women's National Team. Delorme is the co-owner of Actiforme Consultants and has provided strength and conditioning advice to Canadian athletes competing in boxing, diving, handball, rowing, short-track speed skating, swimming, synchronized swimming, taekwondo and water polo.

Congratulations to all of the athletes!

Special thanks to Bushido Water Polo Club for their help in organizing this year's Championships.

MWPA Office note - It takes a community to run programs like this and without the help of so many volunteers, parents and athletes we would not be able to make these types of events happen.

There were so many excellent games and all of the athletes stepped up to the challenge.

Very proud of everyone,

Executive Director

Manitoba Water Polo operates a School League from October to December each year. This year MWPA will continue with the Middle Years division for students in grades 6—8, as well as the High School Varsity division for students in grades 9—12.

MWPA makes every effort to reach out to schools and help them start teams in one or more divisions . However, the best success occurs when YOU—the students and parents —get involved! Schools support programs that matter to YOU .

To get a team started at your school:

1)   Find some teammates—encourage your classmates to give our great sport a try through this recreational opportunity. Note that all divisions are coed, so be sure to talk to both boys and girls at your school.
2)   Share the school league video .
3)   Find a teacher or administrator to support your efforts.
4)   Talk to MWPA about hosting an informational meeting at your school. MWPA can also support you and the school administrator with posters/pamphlets/information and registration.
5)   Find a coach—Ask your parent, older sibling, teacher—anyone can coach. If you are having trouble finding a coach, just ask, MWPA can help!
6)   Register your school team with MWPA by September 19.
7)   Book practice time—limited times are available through MWPA—you can also book your own at your closest pool.
8)   Have a blast playing water polo with your school starting Sunday October 16.

For more information about starting a team at your school contact: manitobawaterpolo01@gmail.com.
